Become a Volunteer

Volunteering can be an extremely rewarding experience and there are plenty of opportunities at the Brook Waimarama Sanctuary to learn new skills and experience a side of our sanctuary few people get to see.  It is also an opportunity to share your knowledge and experience with others and to meet new friends who share your passion. Most importantly, it is a chance to make a real difference to the New Zealand ecology.

Who can Volunteer?

Volunteers come from all walks of life, but must be over 18 years of age in order to comply with health and safety regulations.  The role you choose may depend on availability or fitness restrictions, but whether you decide to donate your time once a month or regularly each week there is bound to be a way for you to help.

Aquatic Monitoring
Backyard Bird Monitoring We have been measuring bird activity at the sanctuary for many years and are heartened by a marked increase in numbers, both at the sanctuary and in the local community. We have a dedicated team of bird monitors who operate five minute bird counts within the sanctuary site on a regular basis. You can help us without even leaving home by becoming a backyard bird monitor! This involves counting the birds seen in your backyard during a half hour period once a month. Easy!
